Marmara Investigation:Turkey expels Israeli ambassador

The Turkish foreign minister had already warned Thursday that his government would implement its "Plan B" sanctions if Israel did not present his apologies to Ankara for the collision of the flotilla to Gaza by the publication of a UN report on the subject. The assault by Israeli commandos in international waters in 2010 had killed nine Turks. The Office of the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, "consults" to decide on the response and its formulation in the Turkish decision, said a senior Israeli official, on condition of anonymity.

After the raid, which took place in international waters, Turkey recalled its ambassador to Tel Aviv. The Jewish state was ready to express regret and to provide funds "on humanitarian grounds" to relatives of the victims, but refused to apologize for not exposing his soldiers to prosecution.

In its report, officially released Friday, the UN operation denounces the Israeli navy "unreasonable" and "excessive", but acknowledges the legality of the naval blockade. Israel said it would accept the document with "one-off reserves." Turkish President Abdullah Gul, for his part completely rejected the report, calling it "null and void."
