NATO in Libya

NATO, which continues its mission to Libya, informed the number of interventions.

It took more than 20,000 "out" of military aircraft carried out in 143 days by the air forces of NATO countries and their partners, including nearly 8,000 ground attack, to defeat the regime of Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. Which is almost half the number of "exits" made during the 78 days of the war in Kosovo in spring 1999 to force Slobodan Milosevic's forces to leave this ancient province linked to Serbia.

Since NATO took over March 31 the command of the Western intervention in Libya, calling it "Operation Unified Protector", the Alliance and its partners - Sweden, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar - have conducted a total of 20,751 sorties, 7848 attack, according to a balance sheet at the date of Monday.

All outputs of attack ("strikes") do not necessarily involve the use of munitions, as some missions are used to identify targets, says the Alliance.

This gives a daily average of 145 attractions, 55 "strikes", as the mission continues as supporters of Gaddafi will pose a threat to the Libyan people, according to the spokesman for NATO, Oana Lungescu.

For comparison, the NATO air campaign in Kosovo lasted 78 days, from March 24 to June 10, 1999. The number of outputs required to bend in Serbia was 37,465, or 480 per day on average. The offensive output, with ground attack, were 10,484 in number (134 per day).
